Class is in session!
What is the cause of droopy eyelids?
The most common cause of a drooping eyelid is ptosis.
This condition causes the upper eyelid to drop down as a result of weakened muscles above the eyelid. When these muscles lose their firmness, eyelids droop and you’re left looking worn out and tired (no matter how much sleep you get).
Ptosis can concur in one or both eyes, and may also worsen during the day as your eyes become tired. For busy Moms, working parents, and women of all ages, it can be tough to find time in the day for self-care. Thankfully, there are ways to correct your eyelid asymmetry without undergoing surgery or spending your savings on miracle creams and cures advertised during daytime TV.
The solution?
The following 5 facial exercises help you fix droopy eyelids without surgery.
Fix Droopy Eyelids Exercise #1 - Wide-Eyes
Let’s start with the basics.
This facial exercise is easy to do in the comfort and privacy of your own home. All you’ll need is a spare 5 minutes and the use of your hands. To start, find a comfortable position to sit or stand. Next, open your eyes as wide as possible and hold this tension for 5 seconds. If you’re struggling to maintain tension, you can use your fingers to gently apply outwards pressure.
Relax your eyes for 5 seconds, then restore tension. Continue this pattern for 30 seconds.
Fix Droopy Eyelids Exercise #2 - Eyebrow Lift
Facelifts are all the rage in Hollywood right now, but who wants to spend thousands of dollars (not to mention the needles and pain) to look younger? You can enjoy a home remedy for droopy eyes with this assisted Face Yoga exercise.
To start, place each index finger under your eyebrows and gently apply upwards pressure. Avoid pushing so high you create forehead wrinkles, but feel the tension in your eyebrows and hold this sensation. Next, close your eyes while keeping your fingers gently in place. Don’t worry if you feel a little extra resistance - this is good!
Hold this pose for 15 to 20 seconds before resting. Repeat three to five times to help build strength and tone that can counter the effects of drooping eyelids.
Fix Droopy Eyelids Exercise #3 - Rapid Blinking
19,200.
That’s how often the average person blinks every single day. You can add to this number with a fun and simple Face Yoga pose that helps build stronger muscles around your eyes and counters unwanted drooping eyelids.
To perform this facial exercise, simply place two fingers on each temple. This will help create resistance for the next phase, which is to blink rapidly for 20 seconds. The resistance in your brow will strengthen upper eye muscles and sculpt your eyelids into the youthful and vibrant aesthetic you crave.
Fix Droopy Eyelids Exercise #4 - Binocular Blinking
The most effective way to prevent and correct droopy eyelids is to utilize resistance. In the same way that lifting weights at the gym creates resistance that builds stronger, firmer muscles, you can strengthen eye muscles by leveraging resistance.
How?
By forming a binocular shape around each eye using your thumb and index fingers. Next, alternate between squinting and forehead wrinkling. With your pseudo-binoculars in place, you’ll hold tension in your eyelids and help work out the muscles of your face that don’t often get isolated and activated.
Repeat this alternating movement for 30 seconds then rest. You can perform this Face Yoga exercise between 3 to 5 times per workout.
Fix Droopy Eyelids Exercise #5 - Squint Repetitions
If you’ve ever misplaced your glasses and tried to read a text on your phone, then you’re already a pro at squinting.
You can use this movement to help strengthen eyelids and say goodbye to drooping features by performing this simple at-home Face Yoga exercise. To start, place your index finger against the corner of your left eye. You want to push inwards to hold the corner of your eye in place (but avoid pushing upwards or downwards). While holding this pressure to create resistance, squint with your left eye before relaxing. Repeat this movement with your right eye.
You can perform this alternative facial exercise for up to 30 seconds before resting. With 3 to 5 total repetitions of this cycle, you’ll have the at-home remedy for drooping eyelids at your fingertips - literally!
