Jawline Exercise #1 – The Tongue Press

If you’ve ever used your tongue to try and dislodge a piece of food behind your teeth, you’ll already be a pro at this simple Face Yoga exercise.

Start by placing your tongue on the roof of your mouth, right up against your teeth. Next, close your mouth and apply upward pressure with your tongue. Holding your tongue in this position, make a humming sound (think “mhm mhm mhm”) to assist with muscle movement.

As silly as it may sound, aim to make this noise as loud as you can to ensure your tongue is vibrating fully, helping to tighten to sagging skin under your chin and melt face fat.

Repetitions: Repeat this facial exercise 10 times


Jawline Exercise #2 – The Sagging Chin Supporter

This is an assisted Face Yoga exercise, meaning you’ll need both hands for maximum results. 

Start by sitting comfortably at a table, or level surface where you can rest your elbows. Keeping your elbows on the table, rest your chin on your balled fists. Holding this position, try to open your mouth. You should be generating resistance by (gently) pushing your fists up and your chin down.

This facial exercise helps target the muscles under your chin that, with time, lose shape and definition. With these muscles losing their shape and moving downwards (you can thank gravity for that), your chin becomes saggy and uneven.

Jawline Exercise #3 – The Vowel Sounds

It’s time to go back to school and work on your vowels.

It can be tough to activate facial muscles and prevent atrophy, and regular gym workouts or treadmill time won’t help sculpt your jawline. Instead, you can get creative to activate the muscles of your cheek, chin, and jawline and one of the simplest ways is to sound out your vowels – specifically “O” and “E”.

These vowels engage the core muscles of your jawline, so focus on articulating each vowel while doing your best to keep your teeth hidden by your lips. You’ll feel this pose pull on your lips, which is creating the resistance you need to drive change.

Repetitions: Repeat this facial exercise 15 times


Jawline Exercise #4 – The Jawline Roll

This facial exercise requires a little practice, so only move onto this final jaw-defining movement if you’ve comfortably mastered the previous poses.

You’ll need to tense your face, as if anticipating being hit, then pucker your lips. Holding this position, forcefully say “EWW Charles” as if you’ve watched your friend, Charles, go to the bathroom without washing their hands (a big no-no in these pandemic times).

Although this may sound silly, forcing your mouth to enunciate these words while holding this tensed position draws a circle inside your mouth with your tongue. This creates resistance to work the crucial muscles around your jaw, and as these muscles become more defined, your jaw will become more sculpted.
